DORIS MARITIME SERVICES S.A. ("DORIS") is a Swiss service company to the maritime industry, established in Geneva in 1983 by Mr. Nicolas Wirth.
Mr. Wirth, the General Manager, born in 1945, has a dual British and Swiss nationality. He has spent 10 years at sea in the merchant marine, acquiring considerable practical experience in all aspects of ship operation, and possesses a British First Mate's Foreign Going Ticket. He has graduated with honors from Cardiff University in 1975 with a Bsc. (hons) in Maritime Studies. In 1975 he joined Tradax / Cargill, and from 1978 to 1983 he worked at Acomarit Service Maritime S.A., Geneva, a ship management company where he was a director in charge of a fleet which at the time grew to over one million tons deadweight.
Mr. Wirth has a wide experience in all aspects of ships' technical and commercial management is heading a team of highly experienced and dedicated professionals providing management and financing services in the following fields :

The activities of DORIS have been in container leasing, containerised transport, liner operations and ship owning. DORIS is now concentrating on ship management activities. The company is, since 1987 onwards, managing and operating a shipping company owning small container vessels, all chartered to 1st class liner companies (like Mitsui OSK, M.S.C., Sea Consortium (BXCL), SeaLand). Simultaneously, the company is managing larger bulk carriers, container ships and RoRo vessels.
Today, Doris has some spare ship management capacity.
DORIS has successfully conducted the following main activities :
- Ship Management
- Ship chartering as a principal.
- Sale and purchase as a principal.
- Management of ship owning companies.
- Newbuilding supervision over projects at Chinese shipyards.
- Management of a company specialised in wood transport from South America to Western Europe. DORIS set up an office in Montevideo to follow up the operation (now finalised). This operation served as a hedge to buy and profitably sell large open hatch bulk carriers.
- Development & operations of several private placement funds aiming at operations profits & capital gains in the ship owning industry.
- Operation of a multimodal door to door triangle fully containerised service between Portugal - UK - Benelux - Germany (and Baltic states).
- Lease and purchase of new containers to shipping companies (over 20.000 units).
- Recovery of containers for creditors (recovery level of 95% and over 15.000 units recovered and placed on the market.
- Consultancy work for banks and larger companies.
- Development and operations of electronic and data processing projects.
Today, DORIS concentrates it's activities in ship management, currently is involving container vessels and bulk carriers under commercial and operational management, trading world wide on long term charters to first class major liner companies as above.
DORIS was completing a major container hub port project with HPH (Hutchison International Port Holdings, part of the Li Ka-Shing Group). Doris now is working on another similar project to secure long term employment for container feeder vessels.
With the experience in this field from 1983 onwards, with an excellent contact to the market and the users (major liner companies), together with an excellent technical/operational staff, DORIS is well suited to market and operate in this segment, taking advantage of the experience, and the close contacts in the trade.
DORIS employs in Geneva a highly skilled staff in the fields of chartering, operations, crewing, technical management, insurance and project development. It is fully ISO 9000, ISPS and ISM certified.
